Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA) conducts an annual student Essay Contest to foster the study and appreciation of Jane Austen’s work. The contest is open to students world-wide ranging from high school to graduate level students. Scholarship awards range from $250-$1,000.

Thomas Jefferson’s University of Virginia is a place where producing leaders for a self-governing people has always been a primary goal. The undergraduate scholarship program has been attracting and cultivating undergraduate leaders since 1980, providing them sufficient financial support so that they are free to develop their talents and to use them for the good of the University community.

The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) invites all high school students interested in the American Revolution to participate in the Joseph S. Rumbaugh Historical Oration Contest. The contest is open to all students attending home schools, public, parochial, or private high school students in that same grade range. While the preliminary rounds of the contest begin at the local level, students may eventually advance to the state or national levels, eventually held in June during the annual SAR Congress.

The Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest is the culmination of the Junior Duck Stamp educational program. After studying waterfowl anatomy and habitat, students may express their newfound knowledge by drawing, painting or sketching a picture of an eligible North American waterfowl species. Because students express themselves best in different formats, the conservation message contest gives them an opportunity to use the written word to express their knowledge. Students from across the United States submit their artwork to their state, territory or district competition. The “Best of Show” from each competition is submitted to the Federal Junior Duck Stamp Design Contest, where a panel of judges will select one image to become the next Junior Duck Stamp.

The Junior Science and Humanities Symposia (JSHS) Program is designed to challenge and engage students (Grades 9-12) in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM). Individual students compete for scholarships and recognition by presenting the results of their original research efforts before a panel of judges and an audience of their peers.

The Mission of the Kids Philosophy Slam is to give kids a voice and to inspire kids to think by unlocking their intellectual and creative potential through a unique and powerful philosophical forum.

 

It is designed to make philosophy accessible and fun for kids of all ages and abilities, to promote a philosophical dialogue between kids and adults, and to promote a greater awareness of philosophy and education in everyday life.

The Kids’ Lit Quiz is an annual literature quiz for students aged 10 – 13 years.

 

Quizzes are held in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, United Kingdom and USA.The winning team from each heat competes in a National Final. National champions compete in the World Final.

 

The quiz was founded by New Zealand quizmaster Wayne Mills, who reads enough books to write several thousand questions each year. You can test your team on some of Wayne’s questions by visiting our Question Bank.

LEDA is a national, not-for-profit organization dedicated to identifying and developing the academic and leadership potential of exceptional public high school students from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds. Each year, LEDA recruits a new cohort of LEDA Scholars – 100 qualified high school juniors who show leadership potential but lack the exposure and support they need to attend highly selective colleges. LEDA Scholars receive leadership training, writing instruction, standardized test preparation and a year of highly personalized guidance as they navigate the application and admissions process at the most competitive colleges. Throughout college and beyond, Scholars are offered ongoing advising, career counseling, postgraduate planning and community-building support to help them succeed and lead.

The InvenTeam® initiative has been changing the way educators teach and providing young people – especially young women and students from underrepresented backgrounds – with creative problem solving skills to flourish in college and career for over 15 years. High school students experience invention and cultivate creativity through an InvenTeam grant of up to $10K. The InvenTeam initiative has worked with 2,900 students across the U.S. to invent technological solutions to real-world problems.

LifeSmarts, the ultimate consumer challenge, is an educational opportunity for students in 6th-12th grade. This competition prepares students to enter the real world as smart adult consumers. Participants focus on five key topic areas: consumer rights and responsibilities, the environment, health and safety, personal finance, and technology. LifeSmarts’ scholarship program honors dozens of students every year with financial support for post-secondary education.

Mary Benevento/CTAHPERD Scholarship is for high school seniors from Connecticut who plan to major to engage in the professional studies of health education, physical education, recreation or dance. Such students must plan to pursue a certified program of studies in a collegiate institution in Connecticut offering a Bachelor’s degree. PLEASE NOTE: The word health refers to school health teaching, not nursing, public health or psychology.

This Scholarship is more than GPAs and honors received in school. It is intended for gifted students who are entering a college or university and have a passion beyond the academics; an intellectual or artistic passion that drives them to succeed beyond the classroom. It is meant to fuel the intellectual and artistic passion within each student without regard to the financial status of their parents. Winners receive $1,000 to put towards attending a post-secondary institution full-time. To be eligible, students must be in 11th or 12th grade and be taking courses at an accredited California university.

In 1996, the Mas family established a scholarship fund whose purpose is to advance the education of talented young Cuban and Cuban American men and women, furthering their commitment to promoting the benefits and opportunities that can be garnered through hard work in a free society.

Math Academy is a Pasadena Unified School District program aimed at radically accelerating the learning curve of its mathematically gifted students by providing a curriculum that matches their abilities. The goal of Math Academy is to prepare these students to excel in the honors math and science programs at the most elite universities in the world.

Math Kangaroo is an international competition that encourages students to master their mathematical knowledge, gives them confidence in their ability for comprehending mathematics, helps them understand how mathematics applies in nature’s laws and human activities, develop their ability to derive pleasure and satisfaction through intellectual life, and shows that mathematical education is significant in every part of the world.

Created in 1977 by Dr. George Lenchner, an internationally known math educator, the Math Olympiads went public in 1979. 170,000 students in over 35 countries on 6 continents participated in 2019-2020. The Math Olympiads are math problem solving contests for teams of up to 35 students in grades 4 through 8. It is open only to schools, home schools, and institutes. Not open to individuals.
