Created in 1977 by Dr. George Lenchner, an internationally known math educator, the Math Olympiads went public in 1979. Last year nearly 150,000 students from 6,000 teams worldwide participated in the Olympiads. 49 of the 50 states and about 30 other countries were represented. The Math Olympiads are math problem solving contests for teams of up to 35 students in grades 4 through 8. It is open only to schools, home schools, and institutes. Not open to individuals.
