Choosing the Right Course
At IEA Academy we offer advanced enrichment courses, giving children the opportunity to learn high-level concepts with similarly aged peers. Each session we offer a new schedule of courses, though some courses from the previous session may be repeated on a different day. If a course offered isn’t for your child’s age range, don’t worry; it will be scheduled again soon in a future session. We also give families the opportunity to request courses in parent surveys, which are sent out at the end of each session.
AGE RANGES FOR COURSES
To maintain a low student:teacher ratio, we adhere to our courses’ specified age ranges. Occasional (or rare) excepions are made. If your child is close to the age range for a course they want to take, indicate their first preference on your application and make a note about your second choice if it doesn’t work out. We will assess closer to the start of the session.
CONTENT INTERESTS
It is important for a child to be interested in the subject matter for any course they are enrolled in. We encourage families to have students be part of the decision-making process when selecting courses. We strive to create a classroom environment where instructors are able to teach their content at a high level to students who are excited to learn about it.
HIGH-LEVEL CONCEPTUAL COURSES
Students will get the most out of Academy courses if they have certain foundational skills, along with an interest in the course content. Though we understand that there will be some gaps in knowledge, and our teachers are able to differentiate for diverse learning profiles, our courses are not designed to be remedial or to teach foundational skills. Any prerequisites needed for a course will be noted in the course description.
