Travel to and From Camp
Campers get to and depart from Yunasa one of two ways*:
  1. A parent or guardian travels with them and drops them off at camp within the provided time window for drop off, and a parent or guardian arrives at camp to pick up their child during the provided time window on the last day.
  2. The camper travels by plane to the designated airport (DEN for Yunasa West, DTW for Yunasa East) within the provided time window, meets up with Yunasa counselors, then takes a Yunasa shuttle from the airport to camp. Depending on the camper’s age and airline, they may qualify as or be required to travel as Unaccompanied Minors (more information below).
* Campers may use one method for arrival and a different method for departure, e.g. be dropped off at camp but take the shuttle to the airport to travel home. All of this information will be collected from you on your enrollment form, which is provided at acceptance.

Camp Locations

Yunasa West is located at: YMCA Camp Shady Brook in Deckers, CO
Yunasa East is located at: Howell Nature Center in Howell, MI

More information about suggested travel plans, nearby accommodations, etc. will be provided in the Parent Handbook at camper acceptance.

IEA's Airport Pickup, Shuttle, & Unaccompanied Minor Services

IEA Shuttle

IEA contracts with a shuttle service to safely bring campers from the airport to camp and back. Please note that the shuttle is for campers and supervising counselors only, not parents, so parents that choose to fly with their campers should plan to either part ways/reunite at the airport or rent a car to bring their child to camp themselves.

Non-Unaccompanied Minors

A Yunasa staff member wearing an IEA shirt will greet your camper as soon as they make their way to the baggage claim. Staff will be waiting at the baggage claim and will ensure all campers are present prior to bringing them to the shuttle. Closer to camp, we will also provide a cell phone number for the lead counselor onsite at the aiport.

Unaccompanied Minors

If your child is flying as an unaccompanied minor, your child will need to remain at their gate until their designated unaccompanied minor chaperone picks them up and walks them to baggage claim.

Unaccompanied Minor Chaperone Information

If your child will be flying as an Unaccompanied Minor, the airline will request for the name of the individual who will be picking them up from the gate, in addition to the person who will be escorting your child to their return flight. Please note that the name and contact information of the chaperone will not be available until two weeks prior to your child’s flight. You may provide the airline with the information below in the meantime.

Program Coordinator Name: Vivian Arceo
IEA Office Phone Number: (626) 403-8900
Address: 569 S Marengo Ave, Pasadena, CA 91101

Once the Yunasa staff have assigned your child’s chaperone and have emailed you the chaperone’s information, you must update the chaperone information with the airline to ensure the chaperone can pick up your child from the gate.
